Tarzan Escapes
Short description
Tarzan Escapes follows Tarzan and Jane, who live contentedly in the jungle until two of Jane's cousins, Eric and Rita Parker, arrive from England hoping to persuade her to return with them and settle a matter concerning an inheritance. Traveling with them is Captain Fry, a white hunter whose real aim is to capture Tarzan and put him on display in a cage for paying audiences. The scheme involves a trap set in the forest, but Tarzan has friends among the jungle's animals, who come to his aid.
The film is the third Tarzan picture made by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, with Johnny Weissmüller and Maureen O'Sullivan again in the title roles, supported by John Buckler as Captain Fry, Benita Hume as Rita Parker, William Henry as Eric Parker, and Herbert Mundin as Rawlins. Richard Thorpe directed, from a screenplay by Cyril Hume; among the films Thorpe directed in the years that followed are Above Suspicion, Ivanhoe, and Jailhouse Rock. Made for about one million dollars, Tarzan Escapes runs 89 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from roughly 3,800 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from a much smaller number of votes.
