Trilogy of Terror

Trilogy of Terror is a 1975 American horror anthology that strings together three separate tales, each anchored by Karen Black. In the first, a college literature professor finds herself the target of a student's obsessive attention, and his pursuit turns into something far more calculated. The second follows twin sisters whose rivalry curdles as one grows convinced the other is genuinely wicked. The third centers on a woman who brings home an ancient Zuni fetish doll and finds her evening upended by what the object seems to carry with it.

The film was directed by Dan Curtis, who had previously made The Night Strangler and Dracula, and it sits as the third of the five features listed in his directing career. Richard Matheson wrote the screenplay, and Curtis also produced through Dan Curtis Productions with ABC Circle Films. Karen Black plays all four of the leading female roles, while Robert Burton, John Karlen, George Gaynes, Jim Storm and Kathryn Reynolds fill out the cast in supporting parts.

Made for television and running just over an hour, the film reached a wide audience without a theatrical run. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from roughly 9,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from about 198 votes; the film critics' rating stands higher, at 7.1 from 27 reviews, indicating that reviewers have generally regarded it more warmly than the broader viewing public has.
