Left Behind: World at War takes place a year and a half after a global catastrophe in which hundreds of millions of people disappeared without warning. Out of the chaos, Nicolae Carpathia has risen to lead the entire world, and many see him as the answer to its problems. American President Gerald Fitzhugh is among his supporters. After an attempt on Carpathia's life, Fitzhugh begins to suspect a larger conspiracy at work, one that could push the world toward a third global war. With reporter Buck Williams and a covert network behind him, Fitzhugh tries to uncover the truth about Carpathia's intentions before it is too late.
The film is based on the Left Behind novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, with a screenplay by Paul Lalonde, Peter Lalonde and André van Heerden. Craig R. Baxley directed it after Kingdom Hospital, in a career that includes Sniper 2 and several action films from the late 1980s and 1990s. Louis Gossett Jr. plays Fitzhugh, with Kirk Cameron as Buck Williams, Brad Johnson as Rayford Steele, Jessica Steen as Carolyn Miller, Gordon Currie as Carpathia and Janaya Stephens as Chloe Steele.
It was released in October 2005, with a budget of about 5 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.4 from roughly 4,500 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.2 from about 79 votes.
