Comrade Chkalov Crosses the North Pole is a satirical comedy that examines the imagery of the Soviet hero. Using original propaganda footage from 1941 as a foundation, the film parodies the ideological tropes found in Soviet cinema from the 1920s and 1930s. The plot follows a Russian crew as they travel across the North Pole, utilizing an eccentric style reminiscent of silent films.
Directed and written by Maxim Pezhemsky, this Soviet Union production was created by Lenfilm and released on March 25, 1990. The short film has a runtime of 24 minutes. The main cast features Aleksandr Zavyalov in the title role, along with Semyon Furman, Viktor Bychkov, and Vladimir Baranov.
