Shalako

In the New Mexico of the 1880s, a hunting party of wealthy Europeans travels into the American West. Their guide, Bosky Fulton, leads them into territory belonging to the Apaches, and the group is attacked. They are rescued by Shalako Carlin, a frontiersman and tracker who knows the land and its dangers. He urges the visitors to leave at once, but they ignore his warning and stay past the time they were given. Countess Irina Lazaar, who is engaged to Baron Frederick Von Hallstatt, becomes drawn to Shalako, while Fulton turns his attention to Lady Julia Daggett. When the Apaches attack again, the party is forced to defend itself, and Shalako's experience becomes their only hope of survival.

The film was directed by Edward Dmytryk, the eighteenth of the eighteen films he directed in chronological order, following Anzio the same year. Sean Connery plays Shalako, with Brigitte Bardot as Countess Irina Lazaar, Jack Hawkins as Sir Charles Daggett, Stephen Boyd as Bosky Fulton, Peter van Eyck as Baron Frederick Von Hallstatt and Honor Blackman as Lady Julia Daggett. The screenplay was written by James Griffith, Hal Hopper and Scot Finch.
