The Creature Walks Among Us continues the story of the Gill-man, who is captured during an expedition into the Florida Everglades led by the wealthy Dr. William Barton. Barton and his team subject the creature to surgery that destroys its gills and allows it to breathe air, leaving it able to survive on land but unable to return to the water it came from. Treated as a captive and provoked by the people around it, the creature grows hostile toward those who approach, while the expedition's human relationships turn dangerous as well.
John Sherwood directed the film, working from a screenplay by Arthur A. Ross and producing for Universal. It is the third entry in the series that began with Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Sherwood had directed the preceding instalment. Rex Reason, Jeff Morrow, Leigh Snowden and Gregg Palmer lead the cast.
Released in March 1956, the film runs 79 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 from around 4,700 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.4 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 from seven reviews places it close to the audience scores.
