The Devil Rides Out

The Devil Rides Out follows a group of friends in England who discover that one of them, Simon Aron, has fallen under the influence of a satanic cult led by the charismatic Mocata. The Duc de Richleau, an expert in the occult, and Rex Van Ryn attempt to rescue Simon, and later the young woman Tanith, from the cult's grasp. Their efforts bring them into direct conflict with Mocata, who commands genuine supernatural power and can reach his victims even at a distance, leading to a struggle between white magic and black magic.

The film was directed by Terence Fisher, the fifteenth of the sixteen features he directed in chronological order, arriving between Night of the Big Heat and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. Richard Matheson wrote the screenplay, Anthony Nelson Keys produced, and Hammer Film Productions made the picture in the United Kingdom. Christopher Lee plays the Duc de Richleau, with Leon Greene, Patrick Mower, Niké Arrighi, Charles Gray and Sarah Lawson in supporting roles.

Released in July 1968 and running 96 minutes, the horror film holds a critics' rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 23 reviews, noticeably higher than its audience score of 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB, based on 215 votes.
