Set in a near-future totalitarian state, Turkey Shoot follows a group of people sent to a remote prison camp for re-education. Those who resist the regime are tortured and brutalized, and the camp's commandant, Charles Thatcher, stages a hunt for selected inmates to entertain visiting dignitaries. Paul Anders, Chris Walters and Rita Daniels are among those chosen as prey; they are given a head start before the hunters set out after them.
The film is an Australian and British production directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith, the first of thirteen features credited to him in chronological order, ahead of BMX Bandits. It was written by Jon George and Neill D. Hicks and produced by Antony I. Ginnane and William Fayman. Steve Railsback leads as Paul, with Olivia Hussey as Chris, Michael Craig as Thatcher, Carmen Duncan, Noel Ferrier and Lynda Stoner in supporting roles.
Released in March 1982 and running ninety-three minutes, the film mixes action, horror and science fiction. Its reputation rests on a modest audience following rather than broad acclaim: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from around 4,800 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.4 with about 104 votes.
