To the Devil a Daughter

John Verney is an American writer who deals in the occult, and Henry Beddows comes to him desperate for help. Beddows once handed his daughter Catherine over to a satanic cult, and he now regrets it. The group is led by Father Michael, a priest who has been cast out of the church, and it wants Catherine as the vessel through which the Devil will be reborn on Earth. Verney sets out to take the girl back, but the cult does not surrender one of its own without a fight.

The film was directed by Peter Sykes, the middle entry among the three features listed for him, following Venom and preceding Jesus, from a screenplay by Christopher Wicking. Richard Widmark plays Verney, Christopher Lee plays Father Michael, and Nastassja Kinski plays Catherine, with Honor Blackman, Denholm Elliott and Michael Goodliffe in supporting roles. It is a German-British co-production from Terra-Filmkunst and Hammer Film Productions, running 95 minutes.

Released in March 1976, the film holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 5,700 votes, and 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 127 votes. The two audience scores sit close together, indicating a modest overall response.
