Crimes of Passion

Joanna Crane is a successful fashion designer by day, but at night she takes on the identity of China Blue, a prostitute in Los Angeles who specializes in elaborate role-play. When her employer suspects her of selling designs to a rival, Bobby Grady, an unhappily married electronics engineer, is hired to watch her. The two develop feelings for each other, complicated by Bobby's home life and by a disturbed preacher named Peter Shayne who has made China Blue the object of his attention.

Ken Russell directed the film, the ninth of the fifteen features listed in his filmography, following Altered States and preceding Faust. Barry Sandler wrote the screenplay and produced. Kathleen Turner plays both Joanna and China Blue, with Anthony Perkins as Shayne, John Laughlin as Bobby, Annie Potts as his wife Amy, and Bruce Davison and Norman Burton in supporting roles. The cast totals forty credited performers.
