Amanda Knox

Amanda Knox is a documentary about the American exchange student who was accused of murdering her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy, in 2007. Knox was arrested along with her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede, a young man from Ivory Coast whom the victim also knew. An Italian court convicted Knox in 2009, and she spent several years in prison before being acquitted. The film examines the trial and the intense international media coverage that surrounded it, drawing on interviews with those at the centre of the case. It is directed by Brian McGinn and Rod Blackhurst, the latter of whom also made Night Swim and Here Alone before this film, with the screenplay written by Matthew Hamachek and McGinn. The two directors also produced it with Mette Heide.

The documentary features Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede appearing as themselves, alongside archive footage of figures such as Anderson Cooper, Donald Trump and Arline Kercher. Running 92 minutes, it was released in September 2016. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9 from around 27,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.6 from roughly 600 votes. A critics' score of 7.1 from about 50 reviews places it somewhat above the audience assessment.
