Breach

Breach dramatizes the case of Robert Hanssen, a veteran FBI agent who spent years passing American secrets to the Soviets while presenting himself as a devout family man and a model of loyalty. Ryan Phillippe plays Eric O'Neill, a young surveillance specialist whose promotion to a clerkship under Hanssen looks like the break he has been working toward. Laura Linney is Kate Burroughs, the supervisor who reveals the real purpose of the assignment: O'Neill is there to get close to Hanssen and gather evidence against him while Hanssen remains unaware.

Billy Ray directed the film, his second feature after Shattered Glass in 2003, working from a screenplay he wrote with Adam Mazer and William L. Rotko. Chris Cooper plays Hanssen opposite Phillippe, with Caroline Dhavernas as O'Neill's wife Juliana, Gary Cole as Rich Garces and Dennis Haysbert as Dean Plesac among a credited cast of 41.

The film was released in February 2007 and made about 41 million dollars worldwide against a budget of 23 million. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 693 votes.
