Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time

In feudal Japan, the half-demon Inuyasha and the modern-day schoolgirl Kagome continue their search for the scattered shards of the Sacred Jewel, the relic whose fragments grant power to whoever finds them. One such shard awakens Menomaru, a moth demon from China whose father, Hyoga, once led an invasion of Japan and was defeated and sealed away by Inuyasha's father. Menomaru seeks revenge and aims to release and absorb the power his father left behind, and he places Kagome under his control as part of his plan. Inuyasha and his companions must confront him while the bond between the two leads is put under strain. The film is based on Rumiko Takahashi's manga and anime series and was released in Japan in December 2001.

Toshiya Shinohara directed, working from a screenplay by Katsuyuki Sumisawa and Takahashi herself, and produced by Michihiko Suwa for Sunrise and Mini Art. It was the second film Shinohara directed and the first of four Inuyasha features, followed by The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass, Swords of an Honorable Ruler and Fire on the Mystic Island. The voice cast includes Kappei Yamaguchi as Inuyasha, Satsuki Yukino as Kagome, Koji Tsujitani as Miroku, Houko Kuwashima as Sango, Kumiko Watanabe as Shippou and Kenichi Ogata as Myoga.

The film runs 99 minutes and took about 11 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a 7.5 out of 10 from roughly 200 votes, indicating a generally positive response from viewers of the series.
