Gidget

Gidget is a 1959 American comedy and romance about a teenage girl named Frances who nearly drowns while swimming in the sea and is rescued by a young surfer, Moondoggie. Drawn to his world, she begins spending time with his circle of surfers. They initially tease her, but they teach her to surf and eventually accept her into the group, giving her the nickname Gidget. Her larger challenge is winning Moondoggie's romantic interest rather than remaining just a friend.

The film was directed by Paul Wendkos, the earliest title listed among his features, and written by Gabrielle Upton, with Lewis J. Rachmil producing for Columbia Pictures. Sandra Dee plays Gidget opposite James Darren as Moondoggie, with Cliff Robertson as The Big Kahuna, Arthur O'Connell and Mary LaRoche as her parents, and Joby Baker as Stinky.
