Caught

Caught is a 1949 American drama directed by Max Ophüls, following his 1948 film Letter from an Unknown Woman. Leonora Eames, played by Barbara Bel Geddes, marries the wealthy Smith Ohlrig, a man whose controlling and unstable behavior turns the marriage into a trap rather than the secure life she expected. She leaves him and takes a job in a clinic run by Dr. Larry Quinada, played by James Mason, and the two grow close. Ohlrig, however, has no intention of letting her go, refusing a divorce and using his power to keep her within reach.

The screenplay is by Arthur Laurents, with Wolfgang Reinhardt producing for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Enterprise Productions on a budget of about two million dollars. Robert Ryan plays Ohlrig, and the credited cast runs to 39 performers, among them Frank Ferguson, Curt Bois and Ruth Brady. The film runs 88 minutes and blends drama, romance and suspense.
