Thousands Cheer

Eddie Marsh, a former trapeze artist now serving as a soldier, meets Kathryn Jones, the colonel's daughter, soon after arriving at camp. The two fall for each other, but her father disapproves of the relationship, and Eddie is also troubled by a fear of falling during a trapeze performance his family is preparing for a military variety show meant to lift the troops' spirits.

George Sidney directed the film, the first entry in the chronological list of his features, which continued with Bathing Beauty and Anchors Aweigh. Paul Jarrico and Richard Collins wrote the screenplay, and Joe Pasternak produced it for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Kathryn Grayson and Gene Kelly play the leads, with Mary Astor, John Boles, Ben Blue and Frances Rafferty among the main cast; forty performers are credited in all. The film runs 126 minutes and mixes comedy, music and romance. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 21 votes, a modest score from a small sample.
