Four bus mechanics from London Transport strike a deal with their employer to convert a red double-decker bus into a mobile hotel for a trip to Southern Europe. If the venture succeeds, they will be given control of a fleet of vehicles. During their journey toward Athens, they rescue three British women whose car broke down and offer them a ride to a singing engagement. They also encounter a stowaway who is secretly a famous American pop star hiding from her parents and the media. As the group travels through countries including France, the passengers develop romantic connections.
