Initially, Lionsgate studio planned to film a prequel. However, the sequel script, proposed by screenwriters Sean Hood and Ernie Barbarash, was so well-received by the producers that a decision was made to film a second 'Cube'.
Originally, the traps in Cube were supposed to exactly replicate identical traps from the original. But since the script made the Cube much more complex, it was decided to replace the real props with computer-generated special effects.
The watch found by Jerry in one of the rooms has a serial number different from his own, which, according to the theory of parallel universes on which the physics of the 'Cube' is built, is impossible.
