The Jungle Bunch
Short description
Maurice is a penguin who believes he is a tiger after being raised by a tigress. He leads a diverse group of animal friends dedicated to upholding justice and order in the jungle, following the example of his mother. Their mission is threatened by Igor, a malicious koala who aims to destroy the jungle with the help of an army of baboons.
This French animated adventure comedy was directed by David Alaux, marking the first of two films he has directed, followed by Epic Tails in 2023. The screenplay was written by Alaux along with Eric and Jean-François Tosti. The voice cast features Philippe Bozo as Maurice, along with Emmanuel Curtil, Laurent Morteau, Pascal Casanova, Céline Monsarrat, and Paul Borne.
Produced by TAT Productions, CNC, France Télévisions, and PROCIREP, the film had a budget of 7 million USD and earned 12 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 5.3/10 on IMDb based on 1,368 votes and 6.3/10 on TMDB from 159 votes. Film critics gave the movie a lower score of 4.8/10 based on 20 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- It took two years to create the full-length animated film.
- Specifically for the flight scene to Igor the koala’s lair, the authors built kilometers of flexible sets, as the characters were supposed to move along them at speeds of 50 to 200 km/h.
- At the very beginning of working on the project, the team of main characters had a different composition, and there were even different locations for the story to unfold. For example, in the very first version, Maurice was a zebra penguin living in the savannah. In the end, Maurice became what viewers will see – a tiger penguin who cares for his tiger fish friend.
- The animated film is based on an animated series known in Russia as "Jungle Squad to the Rescue".
