Without Warning

Without Warning is a 1980 science fiction horror film about an alien hunter who stalks human prey in a remote stretch of American countryside. Its smaller creatures, flying predators that attack and kill people, serve as the advance guard for something larger and more dangerous in the woods. A pair of young people, Sandy and Greg, survive the first attacks and join forces with Joe Taylor, a local hunter, while a paranoid Vietnam veteran named Fred Dobbs becomes convinced the threat comes from a different enemy.

Greydon Clark directed and produced the film, working from a screenplay by Steven R. Mathis, Lyn Freeman and Daniel Grodnik. It was his third feature as director, following Black Shampoo in 1976 and Hi-Riders in 1978, and it came out the same year as The Return. The cast is led by Tarah Nutter and Christopher S. Nelson as the young survivors, with Jack Palance as Joe Taylor, Martin Landau as Fred Dobbs, Sue Ane Langdon as Aggie and Neville Brand as Leo. Its 89-minute runtime places it in the lean exploitation tradition of early-1980s independent genre cinema.
