Vivo

Vivo is an animated musical about a kinkajou, a small honey bear from the rainforest, who lives in Havana and spends his days making music with his owner Andrés. The two share a bond that goes beyond words. When Andrés receives an invitation from the singer Marta Sandoval to her farewell concert in Miami, he is unable to make the trip himself and entrusts Vivo with a song he wrote for her long ago. Determined to deliver it, Vivo sets out on the journey from Havana to Miami, joined by a spirited young girl named Gabi.

Kirk DeMicco directed the film, his third feature after Space Chimps and The Croods, from a screenplay he wrote with Quiara Alegría Hudes. Lin-Manuel Miranda voices Vivo and contributed songs, with Ynairaly Simo as Gabi, Zoe Saldaña as Rosa, Juan de Marcos González as Andrés, Brian Tyree Henry as Dancarino and Gloria Estefan as Marta Sandoval. The production involved Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation.

Released in 2021, the film runs 96 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.7 from around 23,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2 from under 800 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 from 106 reviews places it slightly above the IMDb audience score but below the TMDB figure, suggesting a moderately positive reception overall.
