What's left behind the scenes
- The lighthouse in the film was depicted using four different lighthouses.
- The film is based on the real story of the unexplained disappearance of three lighthouse keepers on the Flannan Islands around December 15, 1900. The mystery of the disappearance of James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald MacArthur remains unsolved to this day.
- On the very first night, the characters eat crabs. At that time, crabs were considered the food of the poor. The fact that Donald doesn't know how to handle a crab says something about his character.
- At 59:24, a plate is located near Donald lying on the floor; at 59:34 the plate is no longer there, and when Donald gets up from the floor at 59:49, the plate is back in its place.
