The lighthouse in the film was depicted using four different lighthouses.
The film is based on the real story of the unexplained disappearance of three lighthouse keepers on the Flannan Islands around December 15, 1900. The mystery of the disappearance of James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald MacArthur remains unsolved to this day.
