Dolphin Reef follows a young bottlenose dolphin named Echo, who would rather explore the colourful coral reef she calls home than learn the lessons her mother and pod are trying to teach her. Dolphin society places real demands on its members, and the health of the reef depends on all the creatures living in it. The surrounding ocean offers plenty of play and discovery, but it also holds predators, so Echo must gradually come to understand both the joys and the risks of her environment. The film is a Disneynature documentary, with Natalie Portman narrating the English-language version and Cécile de France providing the narration for French audiences.
Keith Scholey directs, working from a screenplay by David H. Fowler, with Roy Conli, Alastair Fothergill and Scholey producing. It is the third of five features Scholey has directed, arriving between Bears and David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet. The film runs 76 minutes.
Opinions from viewers are moderately positive: on IMDb it holds 6.7/10 from 213 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.8/10 from 83 votes, showing a small, consistent level of approval across both platforms rather than a strongly divided response.
