Plane Crazy is a short animated comedy in which Mickey Mouse, inspired by Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight, sets out to build his own aircraft so he can take Minnie on a trip. Working with whatever he can find around the farm, he puts together a homemade plane and persuades Minnie to come along for the ride. Walt Disney provides the voice of Mickey, uncredited, and the film runs about six minutes.
The short was directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, with Disney also producing. It sits between Steamboat Willie and The Skeleton Dance in Disney's directing credits, and it followed Steamboat Willie in Iwerks's filmography as well. Iwerks served as the principal animator, with Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising assisting him.
Plane Crazy was released in March 1929. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from around 2,500 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 136 votes. The larger and more favourable sample on IMDb indicates a generally positive response from viewers, whereas the much smaller TMDB sample is more moderate.
