Truth or Dare

A group of college friends on a trip to Mexico get pulled into a game of Truth or Dare by a stranger they meet there. What seems like harmless fun follows them home, where the rules turn lethal: anyone who lies or refuses a dare is punished by a supernatural force, and the deaths among the group begin to mount. Realising the game will not let them go, the survivors set out to trace where it came from in the hope of ending it.

Jeff Wadlow directed the film and co-wrote it with Christopher Roach and Michael Reisz, and Jason Blum and Couper Samuelson produced it for Blumhouse Productions. It was released in April 2018 and runs 101 minutes. The cast is led by Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Nolan Gerard Funk, Hayden Szeto and Aurora Perrineau. It stands fifth in Wadlow's filmography, arriving between True Memoirs of an International Assassin and Fantasy Island.

Made on a modest budget, the film took about 95 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for a horror release. Audiences are divided: on TMDB it holds 5.9 out of 10 from roughly 4,300 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 3.8 out of 10 from 158 reviews, a clear gap in how the two groups received it.
