Joko Anwar admitted in an interview that, after watching the film “Slave of Satan” as a child, he decided to become a director. After his debut feature film “Johnny’s Promise,” Anwar spent many years persuading Rapi Films to make a remake of “Slave of Satan” and to hire him as director.
Most of the preparation time for filming was spent searching for a house with the atmosphere the filmmakers needed. The search took 4 months.
