What's left behind the scenes
- The first film by Finnish director Dome Karukoski in English.
- Even before the film's release, the Tolkien family and the “Tolkien Estate” (the legal entity that manages the estate of writer J.R.R. Tolkien, including the copyrights to his works) stated that the film did not receive their approval, they did not give permission for its creation, and they have no involvement in the creation or content of the film.
- Many nuances of Tolkien's apprenticeship are fictionalized, but, as shown in the film, the four friends did indeed found a circle called “T.C.B.S.” – a fellowship of aspiring poets and artists who met to discuss issues of art and literature.
