Short description
Set in an alternative version of Los Angeles in July 2008, the story takes place as the city faces potential economic, social, and environmental collapse. The plot follows the intersecting lives of Boxer Santaros, an action movie star suffering from amnesia, and Krysta Now, an adult film performer working on a reality television project. Their paths cross with a police officer who holds vital information regarding a large-scale conspiracy.
This science fiction comedy thriller was written and directed by Richard Kelly. It is the second film he directed, following Donnie Darko (2001) and preceding The Box (2009). The movie features a large ensemble including Dwayne Johnson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Seann William Scott, Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, and Miranda Richardson, with a total of 62 credited cast members and 110 crew members.
Produced by Universal Pictures, Wild Bunch, Destination Films, and Inferno Distribution, the film had a budget of 17 million USD. Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 5.2/10 based on 634 votes on TMDB. Film critics gave the movie a slightly lower score of 4.9/10 from 107 reviews.

- When Krista comes to Zora, at the moment she picks up the cassette, several posters with an image of the rabbit mask – the same one featured on the poster for Richard Kelly’s previous film, "Donnie Darko" (2001) – can be seen in the background.
- Richard Kelly wrote the screenplay for the film shortly before the September 11, 2001 attacks. It featured a blackmailer, a porn star, and two police officers. After the attacks, Kelly revised it.
- When special forces raid a house searching for officer Roland Tavernier, they kill all the neo-Marxists they encounter along the way. One of them, sitting on the toilet, is played by Eli Roth – a film director who played one of the main roles in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" (2009).
