Tommy Lee Jones and Woody Harrelson previously starred together in "Natural Born Killers" (Oliver Stone, 1994), "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" (Robert Altman, 2006), and "No Country for Old Men" (Joel and Ethan Coen, 2007).
Alec Baldwin was initially cast in the role of Walkott, which was eventually played by Rob Reiner, but it turned out just a day before filming began that Baldwin's work schedule did not allow him to appear in the film.
Director Rob Reiner, screenwriter Joey Hartston, and actor Woody Harrelson had previously collaborated on the political drama "LBJ" (2016) about the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908-1973).
John Walkott, Warren Stroble, and Jonathan Landay themselves, as well as their close ones, appear in the film in cameo roles.
