The Outlaws

In Seoul's Chinatown, a district long troubled by crime, a new kind of threat arrives from China. Jang Chen works as a debt collector, and rather than squeezing defaulters for money, he and his men kill the head of one of the local gangs and take over its business. As he pushes to seize territory from rival groups, the neighborhood's established criminals and the police find themselves facing a common enemy. Detective Ma Seok-do, who leads a squad in the area and has kept an uneasy order there, sets out to stop the takeover. The film is based on a true case.

Kang Yun-sung wrote and directed the film, his first outing as a director before Run to the West (2025). Ma Dong-seok plays Ma Seok-do, with Yoon Kye-sang as Jang Chen; Jo Jae-yun, Choi Gwi-hwa, Lim Hyung-jun and Jin Sun-kyu are among the credited cast of 41. Made for about 6 million dollars, it took roughly 53 million worldwide, a strong return. On IMDb it holds 7.2/10 from around 16,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.7/10 from 569 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 7.1/10 from 12 reviews, close to the audience scores.
