Game of Death II
Short description
A martial arts expert, Chin Ku, dies suddenly, and suspicions of foul play grow when a helicopter tries to take his coffin at the funeral. His friend Billy Lo is killed while looking into the death, so Billy's younger brother, who has been training at a Buddhist temple, sets out to uncover the truth. His search leads him to the Castle of Death, where he meets a merciless martial arts master who becomes an unlikely ally.
Ng See-Yuen directed this 1981 Hong Kong, Korean and Japanese action drama, with a screenplay by Ting Chak-luen and Ho Ting-sing and production by Orange Sky Golden Harvest and Paragon Films Ltd. Kim Tae-Jeong plays the younger brother, Bobby Lo, while Bruce Lee appears as Billy Lo through archive footage. Hwang Jang-Lee, Roy Horan, Roy Chiao and Hao Li-Jen are among the 34 credited cast members. At 96 minutes, the film continues the Game of Death line and follows Ng's earlier work as a director, coming after his films of the 1970s.
On TMDB it has a rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 195 votes, placing it in middling territory for the genre. It belongs to a group of productions assembled around unused material shot by Bruce Lee before his death in 1973.
What's left behind the scenes
- Bruce Lee (1940-1972) filmed over half an hour of fight scenes for Robert Clouse's (1928-1997) action film 'Game of Death' (1978), after which work on the film was paused, allowing the actor to work on the action film 'Enter the Dragon' (1973, Robert Clouse). Before returning to filming 'Game of Death', Lee died. Six years later, in 1978, Clouse returned to 'Game of Death' and finally completed and released the action film based on previously filmed material, using a new cast including two actors replacing Lee. 'Game of Death' became very popular in Japan, resulting in demand for a new film starring Bruce Lee. Most of the filming for this film took place in Japan, and the plot of the film also unfolded there.
