The Hummingbird Project

Two cousins working as high-frequency traders believe they can beat the market by shaving milliseconds off the time it takes price data to travel between Kansas and New Jersey. Their plan is to build a straight fiber-optic line across the country, a project that would let them see quotes before everyone else and make them extremely rich. Standing in their way is their former boss, Eva Torres, who is not prepared to let them walk away with an advantage that could have belonged to her.

Kim Nguyen directed and wrote the film, which followed his 2016 feature Two Lovers and a Bear. Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgård play the cousins Vincent and Anton Zaleski, with Salma Hayek Pinault as Eva Torres. Michael Mando, Johan Heldenbergh and Ayisha Issa appear in supporting roles, among a credited cast of 60 and a crew of 126. The production was a Belgian-Canadian effort, made by HanWay Films, Automatik Entertainment, Belga Productions and Item 7.

The Hummingbird Project was released in March 2019 and runs 111 minutes. It sits at 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb, based on around 18,000 votes, and also at 6.2 out of 10 on TMDB, from roughly 424 votes. A critics' score of 6.1 out of 10 from 121 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience response.
