Firecreek

Firecreek is a Western set in a small, quiet town where Johnny Cobb serves as a part-time sheriff while working as a farmer. His life centers on his pregnant wife and his land rather than on law enforcement. That balance is disturbed when a band of armed men, led by the wounded Bob Larkin, arrives and begins terrorizing the residents. Cobb initially tries to avoid confrontation and argues for restraint, but tensions escalate as the outsiders commit increasingly serious offenses against the townspeople. Faced with pressure from the community and a situation spiraling beyond his control, the reluctant lawman must decide whether to act.

The film was directed by Vincent McEveety, for whom it was the first feature in a directing career that later included Gus, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again. Calvin Clements Sr. wrote the screenplay, and Philip Leacock produced for Warner Bros-Seven Arts. James Stewart plays Johnny Cobb opposite Henry Fonda as Bob Larkin, with Inger Stevens, Gary Lockwood, Dean Jagger and Ed Begley among the credited cast of 27.

Released in January 1968 and running 104 minutes, the film holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 4,400 votes and 6.2 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller group of 83 voters.
