Jackie Mullens is a teenager living in Sydney who dreams of making it as a rock singer, and she gets an unlikely push toward that goal from her eccentric fourteen-year-old cousin. The comedy-drama follows her attempts to break into the music scene while navigating the people around her, including her family.
Gillian Armstrong directed the film, which came third in her filmography, after My Brilliant Career and before Mrs. Soffel, Little Women, Charlotte Gray and Death Defying Acts. Stephen MacLean wrote the screenplay, and David Elfick and Richard Brennan produced it for Palm Beach Pictures with backing from the Australian Film Commission. Joey Kennedy plays Jackie, with Ross O'Donovan as Angus Mullens, Margo Lee as Pearl, Max Cullen as Reg, Pat Evison as Nana and John O'May as Terry among a credited cast of 52.
Released in April 1982 and running 96 minutes, the film mixes music with comedy and drama. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 14 votes, which suggests a small audience and a muted response there.
