Wiebke, a horse trainer, adopts a five-year-old girl named Raya to provide a sister for her older adoptive daughter, Nicola. While the transition initially seems successful, Raya soon begins exhibiting aggressive and dangerous behavior. After a specialist suggests that Raya may never be able to form emotional bonds or feel empathy, Wiebke is forced to choose between keeping the child and ensuring Nicola's safety. To resolve this conflict, Wiebke pursues an unconventional treatment that alienates those around her, including her partner, Benedict.
The film was directed and written by Katrin Gebbe, following her 2013 work Nothing Bad Can Happen. The cast features Nina Hoss in the lead role as Wiebke, alongside Yana Marinova, Sebastian Rudolph, Murathan Muslu, Sophie Pfennigstorf, and Dimitar Banenkin. A joint production between Germany and Bulgaria, the movie was made with a budget of 2 million USD.
