Intentions of Murder

Sadako, a housewife living in a common-law marriage in poverty, is raped in her home by a young stranger who forces his way in after her partner leaves. She keeps the attack to herself, but the man, Hiraoka, comes back. He has a heart condition and says he has little time left, and the two begin a relationship that binds them to each other.

Shōhei Imamura directed and co-wrote the film with Keiji Hasebe for Nikkatsu. It appeared in 1964, before the run of features that includes Vengeance Is Mine, The Ballad of Narayama, Black Rain, The Eel, Warm Water Under a Red Bridge and his segment of September 11. Masumi Harukawa plays Sadako, with Kō Nishimura as her partner Koichi Takahashi, Shigeru Tsuyuguchi as Hiraoka, Yūko Kusunoki, Ranko Akagi and Bumon Kahara among a credited cast of 26; Jirô Tomoda produced.
