St. Agatha

St. Agatha is a horror thriller set in a small Georgia town in the 1950s. A pregnant young woman named Mary, alone after her relationship with her baby's father falls apart and with no support from her parents, takes shelter in a local convent. The nuns initially welcome her, and she is given the name Agatha, but the refuge soon proves to be a controlled and threatening place. The Mother Superior takes a particular interest in the unborn child and increasingly isolates her from everyone else, while strict rules govern daily life inside the walls. Agatha comes to understand that the convent hides a darker purpose and that leaving will not be simple.

Darren Lynn Bousman directed, working from a screenplay by Andy Demetrio, Clint Sears and Sara Sometti Michaels. It followed Abattoir in his filmography and came before Death of Me. Sabrina Kern plays Mary, also known as Agatha, with Carolyn Hennesy as Mother Superior, Courtney Halverson as Catherine, Seth Michaels as Father Andrew, Trin Miller as Paula and Lindsay Seim as Doris. Twenty-four cast members and seventy-three crew are credited.

The film was released in April 2018 and runs 103 minutes. It grossed about 1 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 4.8/10 from roughly 6,400 votes, while on TMDB it has 5.5/10 from 228 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4/10 from 24 reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating a broadly mixed response rather than a sharp divide between reviewers and viewers.
