The Haunting of Sharon Tate

The Haunting of Sharon Tate centres on the actress Sharon Tate in the months before her death. Pregnant with a child fathered by her husband, the director Roman Polanski, and waiting for him to come home from Europe, the 26-year-old begins to experience disturbing visions of violence directed at herself. The film builds its tension from her inability to tell whether these premonitions are real or imagined, while the threat posed by followers of Charles Manson closes in on the Los Angeles home she shares with Polanski.

Daniel Farrands wrote the screenplay and directed the film, and he also produced it alongside Eric Brenner and Lucas Jarach. It followed his 2018 film The Amityville Murders, which itself came after two documentary features about the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street series, and it was later followed by two films from 2021, one about Ted Bundy and one about Aileen Wuornos. Hilary Duff plays Sharon Tate, with Jonathan Bennett as Jay Sebring, Lydia Hearst as Abigail Folger, Pawel Szajda as Wojciech Frykowski, Ryan Cargill as Steven Parent and Tyler Johnson as Tex Watson.

The production was a modest American independent horror and thriller, made by Voltage Pictures with ETA Films, Green Light Pictures and Skyline Entertainment, and it runs ninety minutes. Reception was weak across the board: on IMDb it holds a rating of 2.9 from around 4,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 4.4 from roughly 212 votes, and the critics' score of 3.8 from 33 reviews sits below the larger audience sample.
