What Keeps You Alive

Jackie and Jules are a married couple who travel to a remote house in the woods to mark their first wedding anniversary. The setting is isolated, with mountains and a lake nearby and no one else around except for a childhood friend's home across the water. What begins as a romantic getaway turns into a struggle for survival when Jackie's behaviour changes and she reveals a side of herself that Jules has never seen. The trip becomes a fight between the two women, one that tests how far Jules will go to stay alive.

Colin Minihan directed and wrote the film, and produced it with Chris Ball and Ben Knechtel. It is his third feature, following Grave Encounters in 2011 and Extraterrestrial in 2014, and it precedes Coyotes, released in 2025. Hannah Anderson plays Jackie and Brittany Allen plays Jules, with Martha MacIsaac, Joey Klein and Charlotte Lindsay Marron in supporting roles.

The film is a Canadian horror thriller that runs 99 minutes and was released in August 2018. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from roughly 300 votes. A critics' rating of 6.7 from 55 reviews places it noticeably higher than the audience scores, suggesting reviewers responded to it more favourably than general viewers did.
