Finestkind

Half-brothers Tom and Charlie grew up in different worlds and have barely spoken in years. When Charlie asks to spend a summer working on Tom's fishing boat, the two are brought back together in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the country's busiest commercial fishing port. A costly mishap at sea leaves them facing a debt they cannot pay, and the only way out leads them into a smuggling arrangement with criminals connected to Boston. Charlie's girlfriend Mabel, who is trying to build a future of her own, is drawn into the middle of it.

Finestkind was directed by Brian Helgeland, who also wrote the screenplay. It is the seventh film he directed, following Payback, A Knight's Tale, The Order, Payback: Straight Up, 42 and Legend. Ben Foster plays Tom, with Toby Wallace as Charlie, Jenna Ortega as Mabel and Tommy Lee Jones as the brothers' father, Ray. Ismael Cruz Córdova and Clayne Crawford appear among a credited cast of 34. The production was handled by MTV Entertainment Studios, Bosque Ranch Productions, Krasnoff / Foster Entertainment and 101 Studios, and the film runs 126 minutes.

Released in September 2023, the film received a critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from 33 reviews, while audiences were somewhat more favorable: it holds 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 13,000 votes and 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 356 votes.
