Seberg dramatizes the surveillance of American actress Jean Seberg, who became a target of the FBI in the late 1960s. Known for her work in French New Wave cinema, Seberg was living in Los Angeles and involved with civil rights causes, including support for the Black Panthers, and with activist Hakim Jamal. Her political and personal ties drew the attention of the bureau, which placed her under observation as part of an effort to discredit the Black Power movement. A young, ambitious agent named Jack Solomon is assigned to watch her, and his growing familiarity with her life complicates his position.
Kristen Stewart plays Seberg, with Jack O'Connell as Solomon, Anthony Mackie as Jamal, Margaret Qualley, Zazie Beetz and Yvan Attal among the cast. Benedict Andrews directed the film, his second, following Una, from a screenplay by Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel. It was released in December 2019, runs 103 minutes and had a budget of about 8 million dollars.
On IMDb the film holds a critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 141 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 295 votes, suggesting a modest reception from both professional reviewers and audiences.
