Short description
In a future where rising seas and war have left only two continents, a small group of soldiers mans a remote military outpost in the middle of the ocean. The crew has remained at their post well beyond the end of their scheduled tour of duty, and as months pass without a relief team, they begin to doubt if anyone else is still alive. Tensions rise among the soldiers as they monitor for an unseen enemy, eventually facing a crisis when a mysterious vessel appears on the horizon.
Directed by Tanel Toom, this science fiction thriller is a co-production between Germany, the United Kingdom, and Estonia. The film features a cast including Kate Bosworth, Thomas Kretschmann, Lucien Laviscount, and Martin McCann. The production involved 178 credited crew members and was produced by companies such as Altitude Film Entertainment and Stigma Films.
Since its release in March 2023, the movie has received mixed reactions from viewers. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 4.9/10 based on 8,700 votes, while it has a slightly higher score of 5.3/10 on TMDB from 254 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- A significant portion of the indoor filming took place inside Tallinn's Ghorhall, in the same building that served as the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Taras Shevchenko for Christopher Nolan in the sci-fi action film 'Tenet' (2020).
- The structure in the film is a tower used as an element of a fort, built at the mouth of the Thames during World War II (1939-1945). All these towers are named after their designer, Guy Maunsell (1884-1961). According to specifications, army forts consisted of 7 armed towers, each weighing 750 tons. Their purpose was to prevent German aviation from bombing English ports and mining busy sea routes. The 'Red Sands' fort (installed in November 1943) and six of the seven towers of the 'Shivering Sands' fort still survive today.
