The Croods: A New Age

The Croods: A New Age continues the story of a prehistoric family who have left their cave behind and are looking for somewhere safer to settle. They find what seems to be an ideal walled refuge, only to discover it is already occupied by the Bettermans, a more advanced family with a treehouse, cultivated crops and clever inventions. The two households try to share the place, but friction builds between their very different ways of life, and the arrival of a new danger forces them to work together rather than compete.

The film is directed by Joel Crawford, his second feature after Trolls Holiday and the first of the Croods series that he directed; he went on to make Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Forgotten Island. Paul Fisher and Dan and Kevin Hageman wrote the screenplay, and Mark Swift produced. Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman and Clark Duke lead the voice cast.

Released in November 2020 by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation, the film cost about 65 million dollars and took roughly 216 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from around 61,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4/10 from just over 4,200 votes, a warmer audience response than the 6.4/10 critics' average drawn from 157 reviews.
