What's left behind the scenes
- Midsummer is a Swedish holiday celebrating the summer solstice (literally, 'mid-summer'). It is celebrated on the Saturday closest to June 19th.
- The director's cut of the film has a runtime of 170 minutes.
- The film initially received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA, but it was changed to R after re-editing. A total of over 30 minutes of scenes were cut.
- The film was inspired by the director's personal experience of a breakup.
- Before filming the movie, the director studied materials relating to ancient rituals and Viking customs.
