Midori

Midori follows a young orphan who finds herself trapped in a traveling circus troupe. While she initially hopes for a better life, she is instead subjected to severe abuse and forced labor by the other performers. Her situation changes with the arrival of Masanitsu, a mysterious hypnotist of short stature. As he brings financial success to the troupe, he offers the girl protection and hope, though this relationship creates tension with the other members of the show.

Directed and written by Hiroshi Harada, this 1992 Japanese production is the first of two films directed by Harada, followed by Zashikiro in 2025. The animation features the voices of Minako Naka, Norihiko Morishita, Keinosuke Okamoto, Kazuyoshi Hayashi, Yoshifumi Nomura, and Sanae Katô. The film blends elements of drama, horror, and romance over its 55-minute runtime.
