Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm follows Bruce Wayne as he reconnects with Andrea Beaumont, a woman he was once involved with, while a mysterious killer stalks Gotham's organized crime figures. Because Batman is seen near the scenes of the murders, the authorities and the public suspect him, and he is forced to clear his name while confronting memories of his early years as a vigilante. Several mobsters from Gotham's old underworld are targeted, and Bruce's investigation leads him back to people and events from his own past.

The film was directed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, the first feature each of them directed, and written by Alan Burnett, Michael Reaves and Paul Dini. Kevin Conroy voices Batman, with Dana Delany as Andrea Beaumont, Hart Bochner as Arthur Reeves, Stacy Keach as the Phantasm and Carl Beaumont, Abe Vigoda as Salvatore Valestra and Dick Miller as Chuckie Sol. It runs 76 minutes and was produced by Warner Bros. Family Entertainment.

Made for about 6 million dollars, the film took in roughly the same amount at the worldwide box office, so it drew a modest theatrical audience. Its reputation rests on home viewing instead: on IMDb it holds 7.8/10 from 63,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5/10 from 1,297 votes, while critics gave it 7.1/10 from 58 reviews. Its release came between the animated television series that inspired it and Timm's later DC animated films.
