Pinocchio

Robert Zemeckis directed this live-action take on the story of a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. A cricket named Jiminy takes up residence in the workshop of an elderly woodcarver, Geppetto, who has finished carving a marionette and longs for a son. A wish brings the puppet, Pinocchio, to life, and Geppetto raises him as his own child and sends him to school. Pinocchio, however, is drawn toward adventure, and when a fox and a cat persuade him that fame awaits him on the stage of the puppeteer Stromboli, the naive boy sets off, with Jiminy serving as his guide and conscience. Blue Fairy, Sofia the seagull and the Coachman also figure in the story.

The screenplay is by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz, who also produced with Andrew Miano. Tom Hanks plays Geppetto, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket; Cynthia Erivo appears as the Blue Fairy, alongside Angus Wright and Sheila Atim. The film runs 105 minutes and was made for a reported 150 million USD.

It came twenty-second in chronological order among the 23 features Zemeckis has directed, following Roald Dahl's The Witches and preceding Here. Reception was mixed: on IMDb it holds 5.1/10 from over 40,000 votes, on TMDB 6.2/10 from a smaller number of votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 4.8/10 from 181 reviews.
