Spread Your Wings

Christian is a scientist who has devoted himself to studying wild geese and their migration. He lives apart from the city, in the Camargue, where his son Thomas is sent to spend the summer holidays. Thomas, a teenager absorbed by video games, has no interest in his father's life in the countryside. Father and son gradually come together around a plan to save the geese from extinction: Christian wants to guide the birds along a new migration route with his ultralight aircraft, from Norway to the south of France, away from the dangers they face along the way.

Spread Your Wings is a French and Norwegian production directed by Nicolas Vanier, who wrote the screenplay with Matthieu Petit and Christian Moullec. It was released in 2019 and followed Vanier's Belle and Sebastian (2013); three further features of his came later: Poly (2020), Champagne ! (2022) and The World Upside Down (2024). Jean-Paul Rouve plays Christian and Louis Vazquez plays Thomas, with Mélanie Doutey, Frédéric Saurel, Lilou Fogli and Grégori Baquet among the credited cast of twenty-four.

The film is an adventure and family story built around the migration journey and the relationship between father and son. It took around 13 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from roughly 3,300 votes, and on TMDB it is rated 7.5 from 334 votes, showing a warm response from viewers on both platforms.
