What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, director Tahiti Ishidate did not want to direct a sequel. He was convinced that he had already said everything he wanted to in the 2018 anime series. However, after reading the script written by Reiko Yoshida, he changed his mind.
- The film was originally scheduled to premiere on January 10, 2020, but the premiere was postponed due to a fire at Kyoto Animation studio.
